Car Alarms: 2000 Grand Cherokee Alarm, kettle of fish, grand cherokee

Question
Hi,
My girlfriend recently bought a jeep and it has a funky alarm system in it. after a little searching around i found the alarm box and its a Chapman alarm (never heard of them). im not sure if its a car starter and an alarm or what. the weird thing about the alarm is when we first had the car it would start normally but then one day it wouldn't start unless the button (i think the valet button) is held in. i tried holding it in to reset it and all the things i've read say to reset it with the valet button but i'm not getting any results.

do you have any ideas on what i can do to reset the alarm so that it works and she can start her car without having to reach under the dash to hold the button in to do so? thanks

FIX STARTER KILL
If the procedure is correct:

KEY ON, PRESS AND HOLD FOR 8 SECONDS
OR UNTIL THE ALARM RESPONDS WITH A CHIRP
OR FLASH OF THE LIGHTS, KEY OFF=VALET/OVERRIDE

and that does not work, remove it.
Extract the starter kill relay inline and
repair the wiring as this system and it's
parts are not sold or replaced anylonger.

See attached file to fix the starter kill.

But removal is the best idea.
This truck also has the Chrysler "smart key" in it and that's
another kettle of fish you don't want any part of!
