Car Alarms: Car alarm malfunction, 12 volt, car alarm

Keyless does not operate, I disconnected the battery so I could get in the car to get the very unhelpful book that came with my car. The car alarm goes off when you open any door, hood or trunk. Nothing happens when you turn the key. There is a little red button on dash I don't know if it is supposed to be pushed in or out? I am completely at a loss as to what happened to cause this as I have had the car for three years and no problem, could this be as simple as a fuse? Also before I disconnected the battery I heard a thumping noise towards the front of engine when I tried to use the keyless unlocking button.
