Car Alarms: car remote, honda civic, stereo car

I bought a used Honda civic 1995 with 4 doors. There is a remote start system on it (the's no brand on it but the remote is grey with three blue buttons on the top and one little button on the side). My problem is with the lock/unlock buttons. When the guy sold me the car he said that his kids played with the remote and since the lock/unlock buttons doesn't work. I hear the sound in the door when I press it but the door doesn't lock/unlock. Also I'm not able to lock my door if it's open buy pushing the door device. I don't know if it's related. I have to get out of my car, close the door and lock it with my key or lock the door when I'm inside (which is not practical)

The system is failing ma'am. Best suggestion here is to take
it to a stereo/car alarm installer locally, have him
inspect, extract and replace it now before it becomes
a bigger issue when you least expect or want it to.

Without being there personally to look it over and
evaluate, it is the best idea.
