Question
Car Alarms: 1996 mustang alarm?/valet? hows it work, wont start, mustang gt, little spring
96 mustang anti theft/
my 96 mustang gt standard transmission has what looks like an aftermarket momentary contact switch under the dash, a small red light in the body of the dashboard, and the word "theft" on the instrument panel.  Sometimes you don't have to use the switch at all.  Sometimes when I use it during the starting procedure it will hesitate then crank up fine.  Other times it seems to inhibit starting and the red light goes solid red.  If you start it and drive some and stop it the light flashes.  Sometimes the light is just off.  I got no information on it when I bought the car used.  Can you help me.... I never know if it's gonna start or not.

Answer
Alrighty, not familiar with that system but try this:

Turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system (AFTER MARKET), and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried, Everytime.
This is override/reset.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode but in your case, I'd leave it this
way until you can have a service technician
get under there and remove/replace & repair.
DO NOT leave this system in there or your
headache will get worse.

The other issue is your PATS system (the theft light
in the cluster) If this has been triggered, you will need
to bypass it with a 555FW transponder bypass kit for
permanant bypassing (strongly suggested)
These do go bad, and Ford's "repair" can run
you hundreds.

Let me know what you discover
& if you want to order a 555fe Module.
