My Dad went to open the car with a keyless entry key and somehow set off the alarm. I suspect he set the alarm instead of opening the car (vision not too good) and then tried to open it manually with the alarm set. He couldn't unarm it so he disconnected the battery. I tried to reset it while sitting in the car - pushed the dashboard button in, and turned the key to start but car won't start (I didn't hold the button in, as you suggest in other posts,just pushed it once). When you say, turn the ignition, do you mean the car should start? We have other non keyless entry keys, we just want to turn the alarm off! If we attempt to reconnect battery, alarm goes off.

Ok Ms. B, it should go like this:

KEY ON FORWARD, JUST BEFORE CRANKING.
WITHIN 5 SECONDS, PRESS IN AN HOLD
VALET BUTTON FOR APPROX 6 SECONDS,
OR WHEN YOU HEAR A CHIRP FROM THE SIREN.
KEY OFF.

This should be over ride on most car alarm systems.

Repeat the steps to go back into security/user mode.
