QuestionI HAVE A 99 GMC YUKON AND WHEN I GO TO START THE CAR IT STARTS BUT THEN CUTS OFF AFTER ABOUT 2 SECONDS. I KNOW ITS SOMETHING WITH THE BUILT IN STOCK ALARM BECAUSE THE SECURITY LIGHT STARTS BLINKING, BUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN? IT STARTED IN 2008 FOR ABOUT A MONTH AT LEAST 2X A DAY, THEN IT QUIT. NOW IT STARTED TO DO IT AGAIN. HOW DO I FIX THIS?

I get this inquiry at least 10 times a day,
and of course I am ONLY THE MESSENGER here
so please blame the engineers at GM.
It is a flawed and irritating system yes.
The way around it is also posted in several places
on my sites as well. A permanant bypass is suggested.
And yes, as long as you can get the car started eventually,
you can then program the module, and bypass the passlock,
but not before.
The IB-IM-PLJX Bypass kit is going to be
needed to get around this safely. (www.PASSLOCK2.com)
It matches the resistance level in the key switch
and allows for the fuel rail to engage with any key
you choose to use. See details on the site.
I wish there was an easy way to magically get it to
work without it, but this is what we have available
short of paying GM a bunch of cash to reset
a system that will likely need it again, and again.
That's if you can locate a GM service dept.
in the next couple of years! :>(
I'd bypass it and go from there with an after market
alarm to pick up the slack. Then no GM passlock issues to
worry about down the line.
