Car Alarms: Disabling Car Alarm, bastard system, 1997 mitsubishi mirage

Question
I own a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage.  It has an aftermarket alarm system (I do not know which kind, there was no paper work left with the car).  Recently I have lost the remote entry device/remote alarm disabler.

I need to know how to disable the alarm system since I cannot start my car without this little clicker.  There used to be a switch right beneath my steering wheel, with a a switch for ON and OFF.  I hit that with my knee a year back and it fell off.

I know there is a small black box on my steering colomn underneath my dash that I believe triggers the alarm if there is too much motion in the car.  There is also a LED light on the left side of my MPH indicator that flashes back and forth when my alarm is enabled.

I have not been able to find a wiring chart in my vehicle, or the "alarm brain" as I have seen it called.  I do not know if my car is "open ignition" or "closed ignition", so I do not know if my car will even start if I can remove power from the alarm brain.

Seeing as I am low on cash at the moment, I was wondering if you can give me any pointers on where to look for my alarm brain, or tell me where the speaker may be located (so I can follow some wires back to the alarm brain).  And if you would know if it is open ignition or closed ignition.

Basically, if you can give me an idea of how to disable this bastard system I would very much appriciate it.  Or if it needs to be taken into a shop to have the work done (I really do not feel like paying $200 for one wire snip).

Any help at all would be great.

Answer
Ok then, get over to the local car alarm shop,
or even a Circuit City or Best Buys will
have a valet switch that will fit for your
alarm.

In the mean time, cut off the switch part,
leaving the 2 wires that were connected, free.

Then twist together, turn on the ignition,
hold both wires to ground until the siren chirps.

That should reset and place the alarm into
over ride for now. Nothing accept the keyless entry
if installed will operate until you repeat the
same steps.

Then get a new switch and you're all set.

Have a good day.
Let me know if you were
successful.
