Car Alarms: passkey issue, cadillac catera, 98 cadillac catera

Question
i have a 98 cadillac catera with a passkey issue. it has a factory installed security system that occasionally, locks down for a good 30 min. any suggestions as to what's wrong? ie. i'll drive for an hour. make a coffee stop. when i re-enter the car and try to turn over the ignition, it won't start (all the electrical lights work.) i found that after waiting a good 30 min, the security/passkey system seems to reset itself and then allows the car to start.

Answer
It's likely that the sensor in the ignition switch, after
10 years of use, is going to go bad soon.

This is troublesome, because the solution to this
problem is pricey. If it were another form
of PASSLOCK, I'd say get a bypass module and be done
with it, but unfortunately not on this one.
This needs a repair from a GM dealership prior to
it going bad altogther.

If there was a simpler/cheaper way, I'd share it, but
this is a different system then most, and the earlier
versions of it like yours, require anothe key to
be placed in a box and set in the dash. Your problem
is from ware n tare likely, and needs the manufacturer
to evaluate.

Good luck.
