Car Alarms: 1995 Isuzu Trooper factory alarm, electric door locks, keyless entry system

Question
QUESTION: I recently "inherited" a 1995 Isuzu Trooper that has the factory anti-theft system.  Unfortunately, it doesn't work :(

In other words the keyless entry FOB does not operate the electric door locks or arm the anti-theft system.

The previous owner indicated that it did work at one time but, hasn't in several years.  I have already replaced the battery in the FOB with no change in results.

The LED for the anti-theft "arming" switch located on the center console blinks constantly regardless of the switch position.

The anti-theft indicator on the dash to the left of the steering wheel does not illuminate under any circumstance.

Is there any way to troubleshoot and/or reset the security module located in the dash below the anti-theft indicator without a costly trip to the dealership? Or am I SOL?

ANSWER: It's an after market system, so I suggest
you replace it with a new
one & a set of fresh remotes.

It's always a good idea to start from scratch on this
kind of thing rather then
patch and guess. Re do the security to your specific
needs. Best idea really.

Let me know if you'd like to shop for one.

QUESTION: Ummm, I think I was clear in my initial post that it was the factory anti-theft system.  It is referenced in the Isuzu Owner's Manual.  The remote FOB is branded Isuzu.

Answer
It was clear, but what I know aboutJapanese
door lock systems, they are
all dependent on the physical action of locking
and unlocking, to arm and disarm the "factory" alarm.
This means either replace the remote you have,
or emulate what it does.

You also stated that it has'nt worked in years.
That's either because the OEM remote is dead and needs to be replaced,
or there is other damage not imparted in the last letter.

By adding a new, (cheaper then the manufacturers
keyless entry system. alarms are usually part of this after market
system) with 2 new remotes, you would be
ahead of the game.

If the OEM remote is not functioning, go price it's replacement
and compare the over all cost and benefit of going after market
tosolve this issue.

Either way, you need one or the other to control the
"factory" system & solve your problem.
