Car Alarms: Remote Car Starter Problems, car starter problems, cell phone towers

Question
I had a remote starter put on my 07 Lincoln MKZ by dealer when I leased it in 12/07. Worked OK until a couple of months ago. Now it will not work--ever--at my home. But, it will work for the most part everywhere else. At home, I park outside in a condo complex and am only about 90 feet away when I try to use it from inside the condo. It is an Audiovox one button small fob unit. My wife had a Viper on a prior car with no problems. I bought one for her new car a couple months ago and it worked at first and now hers works only 50 or 60% of time at the condo but OK everywhere else. Could there be some kind of interference at our place causing this? It is really strange and the dealer thinks I am nuts because it works OK the 2 times I have taken it in to them. What could possibly be the problem just where I live? We do have 3 cell phone towers within sight of our parking lot. Could this be the problem?

Answer
It appears from this explanation, that you are in or,
parked near an more powerfuull RF radiation pattern that
is blanketing that area.

Could be anything from an over powering wireless device
like a security system (ADT etc...)
that is quenching/dampening the signal you are sending,
to a radio tower close by,
dampening the area you park in.

This happens allot in commercial parking lots
like near cell towers, banks, malls &
government buildings, along with condo's as well. :>(

Hard to tell what it is exactly unless you want
the FCC to come out and do tests which
they will do upon request, since this is a valid problem,
but the solution is usually a co operative one.

You would need to identify the RF signal blanketing
the area you park in, then negotiate
with the owner of that over lapping pattern being
transmitted to see if you can work together to make
it stop. Can be as simple as repositioning the security box.

No guaranties
on this though. People are people.

Good hunting.
