Car Alarms: changed battery now alarm not working, subaru impreza ts, google search

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2004 Subaru Impreza TS wagon. It has a factory keyless entry, but I've never had the keyless remote.  When I lock the doors the alarm will set, so when I unlock with the keys and get back in the alarm will sound until I put the key in the ignition and turn it back 3 times. I changed the battery on the car and now the alarm wont sound at all, but the security light still blinks on the dashboard. Do I have to do something to reset it? If I buy a factory keyless remote with programming directions should I be able to use it and get the alarm working again?

QUESTION: I did not ask how to program the remote.  I dont even own one.  I changed the battery and now the alarm does not sound, but the security light blinks on the dashboard.  What do I need to do to get the alarm to sound again?

Answer
Sorry, auto responders do that when the word programming
comes up. I don't do factroy alarms though. I specialize
in bypassing them (what where, polarity and where)
so we can install after market in my shops.
If it's an after market system, there would be
a valet switch to toggle into and out of service.

On the OEM/Factory system,
there may be a proceedure that Subaru can
offer you if you contact they're service dept directly.

Wish I had more for you.
