Car Alarms: Remote start not working in very cold weather., code alarm ca670, remote starters

Question
QUESTION: I have a code alarm CA670. When the weather gets very cold, the remote start does not work. Or should I say, when the weather and CAR is cold it does not work. When the car has recently been shut off, the remote start will work. On a cold morning If I go to remote start it...it will crank for about a fraction of a second and then the alarm will go off!

ANSWER: A couple of things to check here Steve.
The first is the TACH wire connection and programming.
Best in cold weather. The system should be set up to
read the tach wire and remember the LAST time it started.

The "induction" or RPM way, (smart sensing) may take 1 or,
2 tries at first. Check your manual for tach learning protocol.

The second is to be certain all connections (1st and second ignition
are vital here!) so that all lines are powered when needed.

Go make these corrections if needed, and if not, I suggest
replacing the Code Alarm with one more suited
for your environment.

Good luck with the trouble shoot.

QUESTION: I actually changed the setting from tach sense to preset time cranking because I started to have this problem...will try to go back to tach sensing mode and let it learn the tach signal.

ANSWER: Yeah, cold weather can cause havoc in remote starters without
the Tach memory set up.

Let me know what you discover.

QUESTION: I just remembered. I had this unit on another car with the tach wire setup. When I transferred the unit to my current car i did not hook up the wire. The unit must have still had the tach programmed into it. I just changed the setting from tach to tachless again and set the preset crank time to 2 seconds....i also programmed it like it was a diesel and told it to wait 10 sec before cranking. It worked, but then again the engine was somewhat warm since I drove it about 2 hours ago. Guess I will have to try again when the engine is really cold.

Was this the cause of the problem? Remember I said that it would try to crank it for only a fraction of a second before the alarm would sound. I figure if there was a tach signal problem it wouldn't cause the alarm to go off? I even set the sensitivity of the lite and full trigger to the least sensitive and the alarm still went off?

Answer
Ok, well if not Diesel, I'd take it out of that mode,
but leave in Tach and go into re learning your
engines tach procedure to be sure it's THIS vehicle
it's set up for. Then leave over night to test.

On the first time "crank, then die" thing, The tach connection
should correct that. And if it has an internal OEM alarm, it should
disengage when you go to remote start. If it's a "factory" alarm
the Code would have a disconnect / disarm wire to address it
during remote start cycle. If the Code has it's own alarm, then
you may have a problem with it.
