Car Alarms: Titan Car Alarm, buick lasabre, valet mode

Question
I have an '89 Buick LaSabre Custom. A Titan car alarm was installed before I bought the car. Occasionally, I will try to start the car and it will not start. All vital signs are good; full-of-gas, new battery, new fuel pump, new gas filter, psi gauge shows gas line at 38 psi. The strange part is that after trying to start the car a few minutes, I simply turn-it off, let it set 15 or 20 minutes, try again, and it starts right-up. It has done this repeated. I'm confused....please help.

Answer
Odd. This one does not have GM's PASSLOCK/VATS system
so that's not it. The Titan my have a relay inline starting
to malfunction though. If there is a relay one
the YELLOW starter wire under the dash, either replace it
with a new one, or cut out and re connect the 2
free ends with a yellow butt connector.

This is pre condition and if you are still having
these issues, you can at least discount the Titan.

Also try Valet over ride.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area, usually to the left
of the leg, drilled into a plactic panel,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes off, and the siren chirps twice.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to valet mode.

This may help you short term. But I suggest
a replacement that you are comfortable with
and have complete control of.

Good luck.
