Car Alarms: valet remote car starter, valet remote car starter, remote car starter

Question
i have a 2004 subaru impreza i just bought, warrenty is done, anyways i replaced the battery to the remote starter on my key chain, it has three buttons a lock/unlock button, a yellow button w/ a star, and an aux button, it has worked before when i press the aux button and star button. if i am confusing sorry but it is not starting my car and winter is near. do not want to go back to subaru they are not that nice. so if you can think of any other reasons why the remote starter is not working that would be great, or any suggestions i could test out. also where is the remote starter under my hood if its a potential problem under there could i even get at it on my own?  sorry to ramble hopefully you can help, thank you so much.
