Car Alarms: Camry OEM alarm, wiring harnesses, small harness

Question
Hello, my 05 Camry SE v6, which I bought new, came with some sort of alarm from factory. The dealer told me it was an option and wanted $500 for it. I said no, thank you, even when they lowered to $350.
I went and looked over the shoulder of the dealer technician, and all he did was remove a rather small harness and LED from the area below the steering wheel and behind the small plastic pannel to the left.
I wonder if I can buy that harness/LED somewhere else and have the factory alarm, albeit much less expensively; if it can be bought, where, and instructions to re-install.
Thank you kindly and I hope this is not one of your forbiden questions!

Answer
The alarm brain and main harness are likely to still
be under the dash. My best suggestion is to take it to
a local installer to identify what you have, and then go
over the variables (ie: getting remotes for it, wiring harnesses
from the manufacturer etc...) or, possibly remove and install
his own system. Either way, you are right, it is a common
practice to have a contractor install after market alarms
when the new cars come in, and then sell them this way.

If they sell, big profit, if not, small loss but they
absorb it somewhere else in the deal.

Take it up to a local gut and get a deal.
