QuestionHi, I have a 1997 Honda Accord and about three months ago one of my automatic locks starting making a noise and usually does not work. Well ever since, my car locks will randomly lock on their own while im in the car, sometimes 2-3 times in a row, and also when the car is not started. The problem is I think that is what is setting may alarm off in my car. I don't have one installed so it must be the standard one. I have been taking out the fuse at night for the door locks, but this prevents the car from starting. I've been doing it for three months, and I don't have the money to get my locks fixed and have that not be the problem.
My question is is there a way to turn off the standard alarm??? My neighbors have complained because if I forget or haven't done it yet the alarm goes off until I get up and run out to the car to turn it off. PLEASE HELP.
AnswerIt's an after market system from your description.
Probably dealership installed when
it was purchased originaly.
The shock/impact sensor seems to be the likely
culprit here.
It's usually to be found under the dash area,
blinking when anything taps on the underpanel.
Locate and either unplug or turn down.
To simply disarm it, locate and use the
valet/overide switch.
To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE
This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it.
But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no alarm at all.
