Car Alarms: alarm switch, ford taurus, coke machine

Question
QUESTION: HELLO,
I HAVE A 1992 FORD TAURUS WAGON. WHEN I BOUGHT THIS, ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, IT CAME W/ONE OF THOSE SWITCHES THAT IS UNDERNEATH THE STIRRING WHEAL. IT LOOKS LIKE YOU NEED A ROUND KEY TO ACTIVE/DEACTIVE IT. I DO NOT HAVE THIS KEY, IT DID NOT COME W/THE CAR. YESTERDAY WHILE GETTING OFF THE CAR, I HIT THAT THING W/MY KNEE. WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR UP TO GO HOME, IT WOULD NOT START.
I THINK I MAY HAVE ACTIVATED THIS THING WHEN I HIT IT. I CAN NOT OPEN THE TRUNK, I THINK THAT SWITCH IS NOT LETTING ME. I TRIED CALLING A LOCK SMITH, BUT THEY DO NOT MAKE KEYS FOR THESE.

SOMEONE TOLD ME THERE SHOULD BE A BUTTON SOMEWHERE, I CAN NOT FIND ONE.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN DISACTIVATE THIS THING?

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED.

ANSWER: Best on this is to have a local technician start over from scratch.
That is old technology, and I seriously doubt that you
will find the manufacturer or the keys.

A tech needs to cut it out of the ignition,
and either add another security system that's
up to date and that you understand how to use,
or cut it out and repair the wiring so it does not
effect your use of the car.

Save time and trouble and get this done
as soon as you can to move on to more important
stuff.

Good luck.

QUESTION: THERE ARE WIRES THAT GO FROM THAT THING TO THE OUTSIDE, OR TO WHERE EVER IT CUTS THE ENERGY FROM.

IF I WERE TO CUT THE WIRES THAT COME OUT OF THE SWITCH, WOULD THE CAR START?

I JUST NEED TO GET THE CAR HOME BEFORE IT IS TOWED AWAY. UNFORTUNATELY, AT THIS TIME, I AM UNABLE TO GET SOMEONE. I HOPE TO DO THIS OVER THE WEEKEND.

ALSO, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH HAVING A TECHNICIAN TAKE CARE OF THIS WILL COST?

Answer
No, not that easy.
The repair needs to be at the key switch wiring
harness. You would need to locate the starter
wire (WHITE/PINK), cut out the ansulary wiring from
that coke machine/round key device that was installed
inline, then repair the wire.

That will allow the car to start.

The rest of the wiring is irelevant.
Once the starter is repaired, simply remove
the rest or cut the wires short and black
electrical tape off.
