Car Alarms: Unhooking audiovox alarm, resident technicians, ford ranger

Bought a 1998 Ford Ranger with installed Audiovox system. Model number sticker is missing, no paperwork. Looked under dash and black and gray wires are just hanging...no valet switch. Can it be disarmed another way? We see four small switches behind a cover on the black box, one of those has black/gray wires connected. Can these be used to disarm? The wiring diagram is close to the APS-25-CL model. We are having trouble with starting because we don't know how it is programmed. Thanks for any help.
