Car Alarms: 2000 Blazer Alarm problems, chevy blazer, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer with no after market add ons.  My car alarm will randomly go off.  I have watched it go off completely unprovoked.  My guess is that there is a short somewhere.  Is there anyway that I can just disable the alarm all together?

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It is the factory alarm.  When it is activated it honks the horn and the headlights flash.  There should be no reason for it going off.

Answer
It sounds like the system you have has a triggering
issue, possibly with the doors and or the dome light.

Check for any open 12 volt sources when this happens again.
The factory alarm triggers when there is a dicernable battery
drain. If this does not apply, the best suggestion is
to have GM put on the diagnostic plug to
read the codes for any anomolies.
