Car Alarms: disarm Alarm after battery change, resident technicians, toyota camry

Question
Hi.
My 99 Toyota Camry battery died on me after a long trip abroad. Tried jump starting it but the battery was dead. So went and got a brand new battery.

When I connected the leads, the car started beeping out as if an alarm went off. There is no remote alarm system. I used to only use the keys to get lock/unlock the car.(bought the car used from a lady).
I tried locking/unlocking the driver door - No luck.
I tried pressing and holding the glowing LED switch near the steering. Some combination mementarily stopped the alarm but the car would not crank.
Lastly tried cranking the car by pressing the LED switch - it totally died as if some fuse/circuit broke.

Would appreciate any advice before I tow it to a mechanic who would rip me off.

Thanks a ton in advance.
Thanks
Sree

Answer
On this one, the best thing here is
to go to my installers forum at
www.installsupport.com and see if
my resident technicians there can assist
with this project.

I unfortunately don't know the
system you are working with to advise
you properly on it's functions,
features, or trouble shooting
information. Better to check with a tech
that might.

Good luck there.
