Car Alarms: Aftermarket alarm stopped working on 2002 Jeep Wrangler Sport, jeep wrangler sport, valet mode

Question
I have a used 2002 Jeep Wrangler sport. When I bought the Jeep, the dealer
told me that the other owner had put an alarm system in the car. The system
has a remote starter and an ignition kill on it. Everything was fine till about 5
months ago. I drove the car to work and set the alarm with the remote. I
came back after  my shift and when I press the unlock button the car didn't
unlock. I kept pressing and after about 20 seconds the car unlocked and I
went on my way. Everything was fine and the system worked great  till about
2 months later the same thing happened. I thought that the battery in the
remote was dead so I bought a new one on my lunch break (thank goodness i
work at a hardware store) and switched the batter and still nothing happened.
So i called AAA and explained to them the if i opened the driver door thing
the key the alarm would trigger and shut down the engine. Well, the tow
truck driver came out and open the car door with the key, and the alarm went
off. The he reached up under the steering column and did something, put the
key in the ignition and the car started up, and the alarm turned off. So now
I'm locking the doors manually, and I was wondering what I should do to fix
the alarm. It's great and I would like to use it again, as it gave me peace of
mind. Any thing you can tell me??

Answer
It's likely to be an after market system.

To try to disarm it,
look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

This should reset the alarm.
Repeat the same steps to go back to
user mode.

That should solve the troubles.

Let me know what you discover.
