Car Alarms: 1999 Mercury Cougar-Panic Alarm?, 1999 mercury cougar, mercury cougar

Question
QUESTION: Off and on over the past few months my 1999 Mercury Cougar's Panic Alarm will just go off at all times of the night. this may occur 2-3 times. The neighbors are quite annoyed as I am too.  There have been several times when it will also beep/chirp off and on for several minutes. What does this sound like to you and can it just be disconnected?(Panic Alarm)

ANSWER: Alrighty,
You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried. This is override/reset.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode but in your case, I'd leave it this
way until you can either get replacement
remotes or, replace the alarm with one
you know and understand how it operates for
the best overall experience (suggested!).

Let me know what you discover
& if you want to upgrade to a
better system.

QUESTION: i am so thankful for your expertise. i need some clarification, i went outside and pressed the red panic button on my keyless remote to set off panic alarm, i let it sound for about 10 secs then i turned the car ignition engine on. then i pressed and held the panic button again but it didnt chirp. did i do it wrong?

Answer
Sounds like you did it right.
You may have other issues, but to go in and
out of valet, it's
KEY ON-PRESS AND HOLD VALET UNTIL YOU GET A CHIRP,
KEY OFF. If it did not work, a visit to an alarm installer
is suggested.

I don't have a better suggestion at this point
short of removal.
