Car Alarms: VW Jetta alarm, immobiliser alarm, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 jetta, have had no problems wit the alarm sustem until the last 2 weeks. The car alarm just goes off on it's own when the car is alarmed and locked. I assume the sensor is picking something up. Any suggestions as to what I could try???????

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It is the original immobiliser, alarm and central locking system. When it goes off, the orange indicator lights all flash and a siren sounds. The lights in the dash which flash has a little pic of an bell and its part of the actual dash. I have not been able to recognise a set time period after locking or a certain time of day. Thanks

Answer
If it has a siren Mark, it's after market.
It may also be triggering the factory horn
honking/headlight flashing system, but I don't
know which is at fault.

Try to disable the after market by searching for a valet
or over ride button or switch (under the dash to the left
of the leg area is normal).

Then it's KEY ON, PRESS AND HOLD IN BUTTON UNTIL
THE SIREN CHIRPS 1 TIME, KEY OFF.
That's valet-over ride. the alarm (after market)
is inert until you re do this series of moves.

Now if the Jetta's OEM system is malfunctioning,
a visit to VW is in order. Tell them to check all
grounding straps in the vehicle as this can cause
a disruption in the way the alarm would act.

Best info I have on it for you.

Good luck.
