Car Alarms: 2000 Subaru Outaback Alarm Issues, remote keyless entry, subaru outback

Hi, I just recently purchased a used 2000 Subaru Outback.  Since buying this car I have had major issues with the alarm system.  Sometimes when using the remote keyless entry unlock button or unlocking the car from the inside with the power locks the alarm will go off.  When the alarm is going off the remote keyless entry and power locks both work, making it possible to lock and unlock the car, but the car won't start, and everytime a door is opened on the car the alarm goes off again.  This can go on for several cycles of opening and closing the door, the key won't help, I have discovered nothing that seems to disable it, sometimes it will just stop, sometimes I have to disconnect the battery (the hood will still open as well).  It is very frustrating!  I think it might have something to do with the "omega" system that is in the car, which I don't use there is a remote unit for the omega remote start system but it doesn't appear to be working (maybe just need to replace the battery in the remote?)  Anyway, I am perplexed and I don't want to have to pay a dealership to rip me off to fix it...any ideas on how to fix this!? I unfortunately don't know the
system you are working with to advise
you properly on it's functions,
features or trouble shooting
information. Better to check with a tech
that might.
