Car Alarms: Daewoo Leganza Alarm HELP!, daewoo leganza, 1999 daewoo leganza

I have a 1999 Daewoo Leganza that has a built in security system which I believe came standard with the car.  I do not have the remote for keyless entry however, and so cannot control the lock/unlock security/alarm.  I use the key to lock and unlock the doors.  

Recently I've gotten a new battery and the alarm is set off when you connect the new battery.  I've turned the alarm off by using the manual switch under the dash (toggle button), and the alarm will stop, but the car will not start.  What can I do to override this system or disable it?  Is there a way to do this?

Dear Ms. S.,
  If you did the
KEY ON, FLIP THE SWITCH, THEN KEY OFF.
and still can't start it, then you will need
to have a tech get in there to disable,
repair, or remove the system.

I think you may have simply missed a step.
