Car Alarms: 1999 Toyota Camry not starting, alarm triggering, toyota camry, late saturday night

Question
We got our 1999 Toyota Camry from my father-in-law a few months back, with father-in-law being the first owner of the car. We haven't had any issues with it till now. Friday my husband had to replace a headlight that burnt out and it required him to take out the battery. When he took out the battery the alarm went off, he turned it off finished what he was doing and no problems, we were able to drive the car just fine. Saturday we got stuck in the sand at the lake, someone towed us out. Then late Saturday night we went to start the car to go somewhere and when my husband stuck the key in the ignition the alarm went off and all the lights went off. He took the key out and tried again, nothing. We thought maybe something happened when we got stuck in the sand but we cant' find any wires or anything hanging down. Then this morning(Sunday) we tried to start the car again, nothing. My husband opens the hood and unscrews something on the battery and the alarm goes off again, he screws the battery back on and then the lights come on(dome, and door open one, and headlights) and the alarm goes off, I turn off the alarm with our key, and try to start the car. The instant I go to turn it the lights go off, I hear a click and nothing. Every time we do this with the battery the same thing happens. I read some posts here about pushing the red button on the car by the steering wheel and holding it down while I have the key turned, I tried it and its not working.

Answer
Well, if you tried the
KEY ON FORWARD, JUST BEFORE CRANKING,
PRESS AND HOLD THE VALET SWITCH/BUTTON FOR UP TO
8 SECONDS FOR THE ALARM TO DISABLE, and it does'nt?
Then it's on to removal of the alarm
and starter kill relay inline.

Try the valet procedure again and if
no joy, I'd suggest you attempt to extract and
repair the wiring at the ignition wire harness.
