Car Alarms: 1999 Nissan Altima car alarm goes off at random, haynes repair manual, nissan altima

Question
QUESTION: I recently bought a 1999 Nissan Altima and lately I've noticed that the car alarm will go off at random; when no one is around or has touched it. I don't think it has an after market anti theft system. It has a remote and the car alarm will stop sounding when you hit the unlock button. I'll lock the car with the remote or from the inside of the car and later it'll go off no matter what. I've even hit certain impact points on the car with my hand and yet the alarm for some reason DOESN'T go off at that time. Is there a sensitivity setting? How should I disconnect the alarm?

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: I've never actually been right next to the car when the alarm goes off so I have no idea if or what dash light is flashing.

Now, I do know that the cars relay box does have 3 spots that read, "Anti-theft 1," "Anti-theft 2" and "Anti-theft 3." I've seen that myself. That's why I was guessing that the alarm was factory.
It even shows it in the Haynes Repair Manual a picture of the relay box with the anti-theft spots, but of course with my luck it doesn't say anything specifically about the anti-theft system and such. It just says that if the relay is defective it must be replaced as a unit.

As far as what the car does when the alarm goes off, it sounds like the car horn honking, not a siren and honestly I don't know if it's just the parking lights or the actual headlights flashing. Overall, I'd say it sounds and looks like a factory system.

Thanks.

Answer
That's a bit of a problem here.
Because yours is a "FACTORY" or, OEM
(original Equipment Manufacturer) "alarm/security" system,
then the disabling procedure info for any given
specific vehicle is now deamed to be too sensitive to
publish here (as suggested by ALLEXPERTS administration.!).

So, to comply, as of March,22 08, this service is no longer
part of the volunteer information I can offer for free here at
ALLEXPERTS.com . Specific OEM/FACTORY alarm disarm/disabling
info is now available ONLY at the WIREWERX.

My installation wiring charts provide the proper wire colors,
polarities, and locations to install a keyless entry,
remote start or, car alarm system into any given vehicle,
or if just trying to disarm/disable your factory/OEM system,
there is a link there to get a tutourial on how to do it yourself
for only $2.99.

I hope you can appreciate the legal reasons behind not
providing this info any longer to just anyone who asks
for general consumption. By doing it this way, I'll
get a record of payment and a name/email address as
a stop gap to help prevent any unauthorized disabling of
your system or anyone elses, by a would be car thief!

Please go to the WIREWERX so I can get you the
info you require to fix your situation.

Good luck with this issue.
