Car Alarms: 2000 kia sportage alarm, replacement remotes, 2000 kia sportage

Question
QUESTION: I owned a 2000 kia sportage for two years now. I never knew the car had an alarm system nor the alarm system ever worked in the past 2 years. In a recent trip to A. City, Nj, the alarm system went off when I parked the car and has been on since. I have to put the keys in the ignition in order to stop it , but I do not have any remotes. How do I disable the system?

ANSWER: Alrighty,
You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried. This is override/reset.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode but in your case, I'd leave it this
way until you can either get replacement
remotes (unlikely), or, replace the alarm with one
you know and understand how it operates for
the best overall experience (suggested!).

Let me know what you discover
& if you want to upgrade to a
better system.

QUESTION: Hi and thank you for the previous information. I looked all over the car and there is no switch that I can find, nor there is a toggle light on the dash or anywhere else. I took off the fuse for the door lock and the door stop locking with the master lock , but the alarm was still setting itself after closing the door. I assume this is a factory system , the thing is I do not recall touching anything of what I normally do, I didn't touch any buttons or did anything different than in the last two years, is there any other way to dissable the alarm only? thank you. I know my wife's kia has a little spring switch on the frame that will disable the alarm when the ignition is on, but I can't find any in my car.

ANSWER: Dear Mr C.,
Is there a siren? Reason I ask is there is
no factory system listed in the 2000 Sportage.
This leads me to believe there is some sort of
after market security application in it.

Is there an antenna on the window glass or a blinking
LED in/under/near the dash?

RM.

QUESTION: Hi and thank you for answering again. No there is no siren, it is the kia's horn that sounds together with the flashing lights and there are no glass antennas or led lights or toggle switches that I see. I looked under the dash with the flashlight to be sure , I put my hand on both sides of the dash to see if I could feel a hidden switch or somenthing like that . The only thing I remembered from a time ago was that if you put the key on the door and you turned it the wrong way when trying to open the door, the horn would sound once , but that was it, there was never a continous sound or an activated alarm or anything like this time. I am very confused about this situation ,but maybe as you said it could have been an aftermarket alarm that nobody knew about since I bought the car from an old guy's family after he passed away. Who knows ? Thanks again RM.

Answer
Found an interesting tech tip, but really can not share it here
in an open forum like this is.

Because yours is a "FACTORY" or, OEM
(original Equipment Manufacturer) "alarm/security" system,
then the disabling procedure info for any given
specific vehicle is now deamed to be too sensitive to
publish here (as suggested by ALLEXPERTS administration.!).

So, to comply, as of March,22 08, this service is no longer
part of the volunteer information I can offer for free here at
ALLEXPERTS.com . Specific OEM/FACTORY alarm disarm/disabling
info is now available ONLY at the WIREWERX.

My installation wiring charts provide the proper wire colors,
polarities, and locations to install a keyless entry,
remote start or, car alarm system into any given vehicle,
or if just trying to disarm/disable your factory/OEM system,
there is a link there to get a tutourial on how to do it yourself
for only $2.99.

I hope you can appreciate the legal reasons behind not
providing this info any longer to just anyone who asks
for general consumption. By doing it this way, I'll
get a record of payment and a name/email address as
a stop gap to help prevent any unauthorized disabling of
your system or anyone elses, by a would be car thief!

Please go to the WIREWERX so I can get you the
info you require to fix your situation.

Good luck with this issue.
