Car Alarms: Cobra 5801 in Saab 900, key fobs, saab 900 s

Recently bought a 1995 Saab 900 S turbo which has a cobra 5801 alarm fitted. I have 2 key fobs with one green button on each, a unit under the bonnet and 2 keys to turn this on and off. Have changed battery in the fobs and also checked fuses as far as I can see but cannot activate alarm. Is there a procedure in order to use this. Does the alarm unit have to learn the key fob signal? I'm pretty sure these are the original key fobs. Also is there a user manual available online? Cobra themselves say there have nothing as this model 5801 is now out of date.

I unfortunately don't know the
system you are working with to advise
you properly on it's functions,
features or trouble shooting
information, as it is not sold
here in the states.
