Car Alarms: car alarm, door latch, dash area

Question
QUESTION: Hello i have a 2000 vw golf and i have been told  by the dealer that i have a broken driver side door latch. this causes my alarm to go off everytime i start the car. sometimes tho the alarm just deactivates itself. i was wondering if theres any way for me to physically disable the alarm. maybe even disable just the horn part of the alarm. ive been told my two other options are get a new latch(like 450$$), or an electric key(400$) and both are just to expensive for me. thanxs for ur help 8)

ANSWER: Wish I had better news, but no.
To make this system disabled, which is intertwined with
the locking mechanism, all mechanical parts have to be correct.
That means the latch needs to be repaired before
you can disable it.

Sorry, the news is not always what you might want
to hear, here.

QUESTION: well what would happen if i were to just break just the actual horn part of the alarm, would that at least make the alarm sound stop??

ANSWER: If you do that, the use of the "horn" for reg. driving would be lost.
Or is it a siren wailing?

QUESTION: i beleive its the siren, because its coming from behind the firewall/under the dash areaa, i wouldent mind if i had no reg horn just as long as that horid noise stopss haha.

Answer
You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

But if it does work, I'd keep it this way, and
replace the alarm asap with one you know and
understand how it operates for the best overall
experience.

Let me know if it works for yours.
