Car Alarms: Auto mate alarm wont shut off, toyota rav4, dash area

QUESTION: I have an auto mate car alarm that was installed in my 2002 Toyota Rav4 when I bought it.  It will not go off so I cannot start my car.  I tried the valet switch but it did not turn off the alarm.  Toyota told me to disconnect the battery but that did not work either.

ANSWER: Describe the "valet" switch and where you found it please?

QUESTION: Where the red light indicating the alarm is armed is a black push button.  Clearly visible lower left of steering wheel on dash.

Try this:

Put the key in the ignition,
and turn forward all the way just before cranking.
Then within 5 seconds, press and hold in
the valet/overide button, until the installed
LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

This should reset the alarm.

Repeat to go back to user mode.
