Car Alarms: BMW Siren clicking not wailing, bmw 318 touring, car alarm installer

Question
BMW 318 touring, 1996, fitted with a BMW alarm system by the dealer when it was bought, not by the factory.

Problem is that the siren is making a constant regular clicking noise about once every second. It happens whether the car is locked or not, engine running or not.  If I leave a door open and lock it with the remote I would expect the siren to go off after 30 seconds, but all that happens is that the lights flash, so I suspect the siren is faulty.  My first question is, will this run the battery down?

Second question.  Is there a way of disconnecting the siren without disabling the central locking or the flashers?  I am not interested in getting the siren working.  The car is now so old that an alarm system isn't a priority.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Richard.

Answer
Have a look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it.

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no
alarm at all. Repeat steps to put into user
mode.

Then if you want to remove the system, you can take it to
a decent car alarm installer for an inspection and
removal-repair if it's warranted.

Best way really.
