Car Alarms: remote start on Saturn SL1, passlock bypass, car fires

Question
I began having problems with the car not starting.  The security and check
engine light come on.  The car fires and then stalls immediately.  I have been
researching this and discovered that it sounds like a problem with the
Passlock.  I found the 10 minute and 30 minute relearn procedure, and it
works, but only temporarily.  A day later or weeks later all of a sudden it
doesn't work again.  I had a remote start installed several years ago, however,
the remote start no longer works. I can't remember, but I believe the problem
started while the remote start was still functioning.  Will removing the remote
start fix the problem?  Can I do this myself?  I don't want to bring it in to the
dealer.  It is not under warranty and in the past I have taken it in to the dealer
as well as another mechanic and no codes come up in diagnostics.  The
dealer said that if no codes come up, they are just taking an educated guess
as to how to fix the problem and I don't want them taking me for a ride.
(Literally)  Thanks for your help!!!

Answer
Hey , I get this one a whole lot
(as you probably have read.)

and of course, & Unfortunately, yes this
vehicle has a the PASSLOCK II key
based engine disabling system, and will require a
GM PLJX bypass module to circunvent it and
KEEP IT THAT WAY!

A bypass is required to interupt PASSLOCK for
remote start applications. It is done by
grounding the system to allow it to start,
then re establish it for security usage.

This Passlock Bypass Module is designed to provide
a proper coded pulse to open the fuel rail
passlock injector cut off circuit.

The output from an alarm/remote starter
would then shut down the pulse, once it has detected
the engine has engaged, and preserve the integrity
of the passlock system.

That is it's designed purpose.

This is a self learning, resistor sensing
and self adjusting module. Once the VATS/PASSLOCK
wires have been tapped,
you would press the program button to learn,
and it does. The car should then allow start
with any hardware store key.
