Car Alarms: 98 Honda Civic LX Alarm Problem, honda civic lx, car alarms

Question
QUESTION: I bought this car from a friend just recently and he hadn't started it in a couple months. So naturally, it needed a jump, and once we got the car all charged up, the car alarm (that he never knew about, he's the original owner, was not aware he had a system, the only security he thought he had was locking from the outside with a key locked all doors) went off. I'm not sure what alarm system it is, but here are the symptoms so you can best identify it.

Both front and rear lights flash, along with the dashboard and the lights on the center console. Sound wise, there is the typical common siren you hear on many car alarms. Also, inside there is also a constant beeping noise. When you put the key in, the constant noise changes to a triplet beep, and when I turned it to just before cranking, it would change back to constant beeps, but after 5 seconds of leaving it in that position, the beeps would stop, but the lights are still flashing. I can still start the car no problem (so I'm guessing there's no ignition kill)

After looking at past answers, I looked for the valet override button, but for the life of me, I can't find it anywhere. I thought I had found it the first time around somewhere under the steering wheel, but upon closer examination, it seems I was pushing a wire (thought it was the spring loaded button you've mentioned earlier, as it was pushing back on itself, but I looked closely and did not see a button, but a wire wrapped in some tape).

The alarm eventually shuts off each time, but every time I open the door, it sets off again. I had to open up the hood and remove the ground from the speaker so that the alarm wouldn't sound (it's really loud). The alarm system is still active though, because the lights and interior beeping is still active.

I've looked everywhere under the driver side dash/area to find the valet override button. By my description, can you maybe identify the system and point me to something I may be missing or a different part of the car that this button may be located? What else can you recommend from this point forward? Right now, the speaker ground is still removed, and I guess I could live with waiting a few minutes each time I start the car to drive (it would be like driving with hazard lights on for a little bit)

ANSWER: Well Jim,
Without the valet switch, you will probably need to
unplug the alarm to reset it, or get a new valet switch
in there to make control functions accessable.

You can get a valet switch easilly at any car alarm
shop in the area. Should be less than 10 bucks.

Best advice short of removal.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Did another quick search...

What are the chances I can find the switch in the glove compartment or in the fusebox under the hood?

Answer
Pretty slim.
Installers would place the switch where it's hidden,
but usable from the drivers seat.
Under the hood is unlikely in any scenario.

Could be part of the antenna, if there is one on the
window glass, or part of the flashing LED assembly
(code alarm and Omega are known for that),
but the area under the dash on the drivers side,
drilled into the plastic left of the knee/leg,
is the usual spot.
