Car Alarms: Cant disarm alarm on 99 beetle, vw beetle, key fobs

Question
I have a '99 VW beetle that has the factory alarm. My key fobs stopped working a year after I bought it. I took it to the dealer and they said the system was fine but I needed a new remote. I have just not been using the alarm. Well, now my battery has died and when I had it replaced it automatically activated the alarm and I have no way to disable it. Is there a way to permit disable the alarm? I can unlock the door and get in but I can't start the car. The dealership is almost 200 miles away. Is there a way to get around this?

Answer
No sorry Ms. Brandi,
   They were absolutely right. Nothing
can be done at this point short of a new
factory programmed remote.

Wish I had better news, and I know you
don't want to hear it, but you should have
headed the VW guys when they told you that
a year ago.

Contact a VW service dept. Explain the issue,
give them all the info they require to program
another for you and ship it out.

Sorry about that.
