Car Alarms: Cant start vehicle - alarm doesnt respond, 4runner, darek

Question
I recently purchased a used 1990 4Runner with alarm & remote locks. This week the remote seemingly stopped working all of a sudden. Two days later it worked just fine. Now it's day 4 and it will not work at all, intermittent or otherwise. I want to just disconnect it. Can I keep the remote locks somehow? I just want it to start again. This morning a long red wire fell out from underneath the driver dash - looks barely connected. Should I just splice back together for now? Is this the problem?

Answer
Darek,
Can't be sure what that wire is. So no,
until you can ID what wire that is, do not
reconnect it. You can try to put the alarm
into Valet/override mode, but from the sounds of it,
the system may have powered down.

I'd go up in the under cavity and inspect the
wiring to see what happened. Repair what you
find and see if it corrects it.

But no ripping out or cutting!
Try to get this right to avoid damage.
If unsure, go to a local installer
for some help.

Good luck.
