Car Alarms: 1991 jeep cherokee alarm malfunction, jeep cherokee, pep boys

I have a little problem with a 4-liter, auto tranny
1991 Cherokee with a factory alarm. Lately, when
I close the driver's door, the dome light does not
turn off, and when this happens and I open the car
door again (after unlocking it), the alarm goes off.

Is there anything that you can tell me as far
as what might be wrong, and what to test for failure?

No idea really. It's not security related I imagine
though. The alarm goes off as a matter of detecting a battery drain when armed.
The light is such a drain,
and I'd start there to trouble shoot.
Bad switch perhaps? Take it over to pep boys
and look at replacing the part.

I could be wrong, but try it and let
me know.
