Car Alarms: 2007 Elantra alarm, 2007 elantra, dash area

Question
QUESTION: My 2007 Elantra has a factory alarm that has no "Alarm Armed" flashing L.E.D. light. I purchased a "Flashing LED" light with one red and one black wire coming from the bulb but have no idea if it can be made to work with the alarm. I was told to hook one wire to a constant +12v and the other to a switched +12v. If I do this, there is no ground. Can you help?
Thanks,

Barry Sanders

ANSWER: Please be more specific.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: My first sentence states that it is a factory alarm, and that it has no flashing LED light.
When activated, the horn honks and hedlights flash.

ANSWER: I understand you may have thought I did not read your letter entirely. but I asked for the question for a
reason.

Since I got that answer you DO NOT have an aftermarket
system, you then have a problem with the equipment.
The amperage probably is incorrect on the after market
LED unless it's a 12 volt VARAD HYPER LED.

You need a switched ground wire, which if
you DO NOT have an after market alarm,
(which is why I asked this question) and you do
NOT have this wire or one like it in
an OEM vehicle.

An after market alarm system's (-) when armed,
starter kill wire can be used to make
aftermarket LED's flash when the alarm is armed,
or doors locked.

In your case, no idea how you will make it react like
you want unless this wire exsists.

That's what I know. Let us ALL know
if you find a way.

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply.
Actually, I was trying to get the LED to turn on independent of the alarm. That is, I wanted it to serve the same purpose as those "dummy" alarm lights. I wanted to let a flashing red light be a warning to anyone that this vehicle has an alarm.which in my case, it does. I was told that if I wired one of the LED's wires into a constant +12v and the other wire to a switched +12v, when the vehicle was on and running the light would be off and when the ignition was turned off, the LED would go on.Does this sound possible?
Thanks again for your help,
Barry

Answer
The only other thing I can think of is to ground
the black wire, and put the power to a switched
ignition to see if it will work.

However keep in mind, if not rated for 12 volts,
the bulb will pop, and you will be SOL.
Put a 3 amp inline fuse on the red before
connecting just in case.

Good luck.
