Car Alarms: 1998 Ford Explorer XLT and The Silencer Security System, ford explorer xlt, negative polarity

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

A few days ago I went out to start my Explorer and found that my battery was completely dead, so I replaced it with a new one. Now everytime I try to start my Explorer, my horn starts going off and it won't start. I've looked for the valet switch, but the only switch that I've found has a blinking red light and it looks like it takes a pin size key or something.

Is there anyway I can bypass the alarm or how can I fix this problem without spending a small fortune?

I really appreciate your service - Thanks.

ANSWER: Ok, if the OEM alarm is malfunctioning now,
(car horn blarring and head lights flashing)
odds are, it will again.

Get out some basic install tools or get
a friend or a good technician
in there to do this.

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
dk. green/purple    |-  | in the drivers door harness.
|- negative polarity|.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the OEM alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

If you have already have an after market alarm
however:

(SIREN & FLASHING PARKING LIGHTS= AFTER MARKET
or is it:
CAR HORN & FLASHING HEADLIGHTS= OEM-FACTORY)

Then look for the over ride/valet button under
the dash area, probably to the left leg region,
drilled into the plastic kick panel.

Then it's: KEY ON, PRESS AND HOLD IN BUTTON FIRMLY
UNTIL THE SIREN CHIRPS ONCE, AND THE PARKING LIGHTS
FLASH. THEN KEY OFF.

This is over ride, and the car should start.
The only thing that would work would be keyless
entry if it is installed. The alarm functions
have been suspended.

Let me know which applied to your issue.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Thanks for the info. I spliced into the dark green/purple wire and it didn't work for me (I probably did something wrong), but I did "finally" find the valet/toggle switch housing w/red blinking led. Unfortunately, it is missing the switch/button. Is there anyway, I can bypass, re-wire or tap into the housing to get my Explorer back on the road again?

Thanks again!

Answer
Alrighty, try to get the wires off of the back of
the broken switch.

Then:
KEY ON, HOLD BOTH WIRES FIRMLY TO A GOOD GROUND POINT
UNTIL THE SIREN CHIRPS ONCE, AND THE PARKING LIGHTS
FLASH. THEN KEY OFF.

That should do it too. At that point leave it be, and
go get another valet button. or remove it.

Oh, the the dark green/purple wire is in the door jamb
on either side however, it disables the FACTORY alarm only. The switch you found is for after market,
and overiding the starter kill relay that was installed.

2 seperate alarms.
