Car Alarms: cannot disable alarm in 04 Toyota Matrix XRS, toggle button, toyota matrix

Question
A week ago the alarm system in my '04 Matrix started to and is continuing to act strangely.  Last week, when I would start the car, it sounded like the dash was "clicking" for about 30 sec.  The red toggle push-button (just below and to the left of the steering wheel) was flashing.  When I opened any door after the clicking stopped, the alarm sounded (car was still running).  I tried pushing the button once the next time I started the car, and it seemed to be working properly after that (no clicking, red light turned off when I unlocked the car with the remote key and flashed when I locked the car with said remote).

However, when I tried to start the car again a week later, the alarm sounded and the car wouldn't start when I turned the key in the ignition.

I then tried to disable the alarm by pushing the toggle button, turning the key to the ON position, and pushing the toggle button again.  Now the button is solid red, but I still cannot start the car (no alarm sounding but the engine won't even crank).

I'm almost positive it isn't the battery because when I unlock/lock the car, the headlights and dash lights come on as they normally would.

Answer
Not good.
Ok, assuming this is aftermarket,
then my next thing is to check the starter
wire under the dash (RED IN THE
IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS).

You want to check the connectors on this
wire, if any. If that does not do it,
then move on to the car's starter or,
alternator/charging system, specifically
any fuses to determine if they are intact.
Then check any IN LINE fusable links on
the alarm system itself.

Lastly, according to my notes, the 04 did
not have a transponder security device in the ignition
column, but the 05' did. If the dealer you bought
it from had a shipment of cars with them installed
late in 04', then you could be dealing with this,
and Toyota can reset that in the service dept.

You can also do an overide using the
IM05 - Programmable Platform #05:
Transponder Override Interface
Firmware: PKT2 2.00 Module
(www.BYPASSMODULES.com) and this
will over ride the factory system for good.

I hope this leads to a solution to
the troubles Ms. C.

Good luck.
