Car Alarms: ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ON FORD EXPLORER 1997, negative polarity, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: My factory anti-theft system on my 1997 Ford Explorer went off the other day for no reason.  Usually I can turn it off by inserting the key into the ignition and starting the car.  This didn't work....and I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop.  When I reconnected the battery, all was fine and the car started.  It went off later that day in my driveway again for no apparent reason, and I haven't been able to get the alarm to stop or start the car (the battery has since been disconnected to stop the noise & flashing.) Is there a way to bypass or disable the alrm or is it a computer/PCM issue.

ANSWER: Please be more specific
for me here.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: Factory "lights flashing", "horn honking", "Theft" light going crazy on my dashboard.  I'm thinking that there may be a glitch in the car's electrical system.

ANSWER: Ok, if the OEM alarm is malfunctioning now,
(car horn blarring and head lights flashing)
odds are, it will again.

Get out some basic install tools or get
a friend or a good technician
in there to do this.

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
dk. green/purple driver's kick panel.
|- negative polarity|.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the OEM alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

If you have already have an after market alarm
however:

(SIREN & FLASHING PARKING LIGHTS= AFTER MARKET
or is it:
CAR HORN & FLASHING HEADLIGHTS= OEM-FACTORY)

Then look for the over ride/valet button under
the dash area, probably to the left leg region,
drilled into the plastic kick panel.

Then it's: KEY ON, PRESS AND HOLD IN BUTTON FIRMLY
UNTIL THE SIREN CHIRPS ONCE, AND THE PARKING LIGHTS
FLASH. THEN KEY OFF.

This is over ride, and the car should start.
The only thing that would work would be keyless
entry if it is installed. The alarm functions
have been suspended.

Let me know which applied to your issue.

Good luck.

QUESTION: I found two (2) green w/ purple stripe wires in the harness coming from the rear of the car, along the rocker panel and up behind the drivers side kick panel to the fuse block. The green wasn't 'dark' per se, but it wasn't light green either.  Am I in the right area?  You mention negative polarity in your original response, is one of these green/purple wires positive and the other a ground?

Answer
The place to catch the right one is coming
out of the door into the cab at the door jamb harness.

It will show rest at ground when disarmed.
Splice into it, the to a 10 amp inline fuse to
be safe, then put it to ground on the chassis.

Once done, it will not re arm until
un grounded.
