Car Alarms: 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo, grand cherokee laredo, side kick panel

Question
Hello Alarmtek. I have an Australian (built in Oct 96) Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0 litre petrol 6. It is original factory in every detail. No actual "alarm" fitted but the horn beeps if the "panic" button on remote is pressed. This model is before the smart-chip-in-the-key ones and apparently when the "unlock" button on remote is pressed it unlocks all doors and de-activates the immobiliser. I have read the question posted on the 12th of August this year from the other Aussie and I have the exact same problem; unable to de-activate the immobiliser. The remote is not even unlocking the doors. I haven't looked for the purple/yellow wire yet next to the BCM. For me to permanently disable the factory (rubbish) immobiliser should I do the splice and grounding of that wire? Also I read the post of the other person who did this and had problems with not being able to shut off interior lighting. How do I get around that as well? It's sometimes a long way between towns down here! Appreciate your help. Thanks, W.

Answer
G'day.
The info should be the same from
the Jeeps here to, there when we are under the dash
board I think.

The notes I have apply as follows:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM wire is purple/yellow |- negative
located in| door harness Drivers Side kick panel
Locate, splice into, add a 10 amp fuse to be certain,
then ground to the chassis.

Also located in the same 14 pin black connector
as the separate door trigger wires.

To add aftermarket devices to this vehicle
we suggest you use ALARMTEK JEEP GC door lock interface
control module.
This will control door lock,
unlock, arm, disarm, dome light supervision and more.

But to answer the question fully, yes it
should ground out the factory alarm/starter disable
allowing the car to start and operate as if
no alarm exsisted.

Try it.

Cheers!

A.
