Car Alarms: After Market Alarm for 2007 Tahoe, 2007 tahoe ltz, glass breakage sensors

Question
I have a 2007 Tahoe LTZ with remote start and power liftgate.  It was recently broken into and the navigation system stolen (ripped) out of the dash.  The alarm never sounded.  I want to add an extra level of security if possible.  A couple questions:

Will an aftermarket system provide greater security than the GM system?  It seemed awfully easy for them to get into the vehicle undetected.

I've heard of shock sensors, glass breakage sensors, vehicle angle sensors, proximity sensors...  If I add a system, what features should I install?

Will an aftermarket system supplement the factory system or do they bypass the factory system to install an aftermarket system?

If an aftermarket system bypasses the factory systems, can the key fob for the new system still operate the remote start and power liftgate?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer
Doable for less than you might think.

To start, a factory system is, in most instances
a noice generator. Might also have head lights
flashing to, and in this truck's case,
the GM PASSLOCK II immobilizer in the key.

That's nice, but it can not stop smash and grab,
and in many cases, a slim Jim can be used correctly
to get in to make it all very easy.

My suggestion is a 2 way paging alarm system that
ONLY YOU will be notified when there is a breach.
Then you can act appropriately while it's happening.

You can add the siren that will come with it
for more noise, but essentially, the 2 way "pager's the
thing". Easy to intall if the only thing you want
to do here it to be notified up to 2000 feet
of a break in or any vandalism.

It comes with an impact sensor, and is upgradeable
if you'd like a motion detector as well.

But you don't have to spend an arm and a leg
to get the next level of protection other then
what you have now, just a bit more to actually catch
the thief in the act. You can also move up to a camera type
of system if really, TRUELY serious about it.

As you'll see, there are decent systems
are out there to help you cut down on
the troubles your having.

Let me know if I can get something out to you
soon.
