Car Alarms: 97 honda civic alarm, valet mode, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I own a 1997 Honda civic. The other nite i turned off my car and the alarm started going off. When i reinserted the key and tryed to turn my car on it wouldnt start. I no longer have the keyless remote so have no idea how to turn it off and start my car. My headlights were flashing and LED lights as well withred light on the dash. I didnt even know that i ahd an alarm. How to i disarm it so i cand drive? I need my car to commute!!

Thanks!

ANSWER: It's an after market system
from your description.

To simply disarm it, locate and use the
valet/overide switch.

To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it.

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no
alarm at all. Repeat steps to put into user
mode.

Let me know how it goes.

QUESTION: Hi. So this worked perfectly for me, but last week i got a new battery in my car and the alarm went off again so i went through all the steps and it turned off fine. But this morning i went out to my car and tried to turn it on and the alarm started sounding again. I tried the steps again but when i turn the ignition all the way the alrm stops but my car doesnt start and as soon as i turn the ignition back the alarm starts again. HELP!

Answer
Difficult to say why Ms. G., except that you may
have surged the fuses inline on the alarm when you
put in the new battery, and that could have damaged
the alarm. Without inspecting it, can not say for sure.

But if the alarm is triggered, let's try again.

It's:

KEY ALL THE WAY FORWARD JUST BEFORE CRANKING.
PRESS AND HOLD IN VALET SWITCH UNTIL THE SIREN
STOPS, AND YOU GET A RESPONSE FROM THE ALARM
ACHKNOWLEDGING THE MODE CHANGE.
THEN KEY OFF.

That should be overide. If not, it's time to pull
the wiring and take out the starter kill relay
inline, or replace this system with a new one
you are completely trained to use. Don't
want you to keep having to deal with one that
you can't control.

Try again?
