Car Alarms: Honda Civic car alarm wont shut off!, valet service, stock stereo

Question
Hello. One day recently, I entered my car and the alarm went off and would not stop unless I closed the door. Also, I could not start the car. (I guess the alarm is doing its job.)

I finally yanked the fuse for the alarm. My wife bought this 98 Civic EX new from a dealer, and it supposedly came with an alarm installed.

Since, however, I had a technology store install a CD player in the car. Everything was fine for several months. Then, one day the alarm would not shut off. So, now I have disarmed it by leaving the fuse out.

Can you tell me how to fix this so I can reinsert the fuse and use the alarm?

Some forums I have read suggested Civic car owners to find the stock stereo and reinstall it! Evidently it has an alarm reset button on the stereo deck??

What can I do?

Thanks for your time,
Alex

Answer
It does have a factory radio security system,
But I don't think it's tied into the starter system.
the Factory radio simply would not be able
to be used again when powered up, without the
proper code. It's more likely an aftermarket
addition.

Ok, put the fuse back in, then I want you to
set off the alarm. While it's going off,
let's try to put it into valet/service mode.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

This solves the problem for now.

Then if you want to remove it, take it to a local
after market alarm dealer and have it done there.

They may even be able to reset/reprog. the features on
the alarm you have, to allow you to use the system
more comfortably, but of course, your call.

Have a nice morning.
