Car Alarms: 1999 Nissan Quest SE Van, keyless entry system, battery cables

Question
The security system will shut off and I can't reset it..no electric whatsoever.  Sometimes I can toggle the battery cables but it's not a good solution - I have 3 kids at all times.  When I call Nissan and have them walk me through it they say it's an aftermarket system (I don't know, I bought it at auction) and they can't help me.

I starting googling the situation and found your website.

Please help....

Thank you,
Robbin Arnold

Answer
Ok, Robbin
  Let's see if it is.
Find under the dash area, a button or switch that would
have been installed to over ride the alarm.

If it exsists, then it would be:

KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THEN TO THE ON POSITION.
ALL THE WAY FORWARD, JUST BEFORE CRANKING.
THEN IF IT'S A BUTTON, PRESS AND HOLD FOR
UP TO 8 SECONDS, UNTIL YOU GET A CHIRP FROM A SIREN,
AND MAYBE A LIGHT FLASH (PARKING AND DASH POSSIBLY).

THIS WOULD BE OVERIDE-VALET/RESET.

Hopefully, this will also apply
to the after market alarm you have there.
To go back to usable mode, repeat the overide
steps, 2 chirps and 2 flashes usually symbolize
user mode.

The other choice here is the factory alarm
(headlights flashing, and the car's horn honking.)
This is the factory alarm, and can only be disarmed
whith the physicall action of unlocking the
doors, either with the key, turning to the left,
then the right. Or, adding a keyless entry system to
the door locks will also disarm the factory
system. But short of that, no other way I know
of to get around the factory system in this car.

Let me know which it is & if this worked out for
you.

Regards.
