Car Alarms: 2003 RAM 1500, chrysler vehicles, immobilizer system

Question
QUESTION: I just purchased a 2003 ram 1500 the engine light came on and I took it to my mechanic, the code came back stating that the key needed reprogrammed I then took it ti a Dodge dealer and the said that the VIN # comes up that the truck does not have anti theft and they don't under stand why that code came up and advise?

ANSWER: Ok, Chrysler vehicles that use a
gray ignition key have an immobilizer system
in the ignition. Does yours? If so, the
dealers info is incorrect. If it does not, the
there is no reason it would have lost programming.

If the ignition key is black, then they are correct
and the vehicle computer is giving out wrong codes and
may need to be inspected.

Let me know how this was resolved.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Well thats the crazy part about it all the key i have is gray and the dealer doesn't know why i have this key.  I have checked 2 places and that vin # does not have anti theft.  Should the computer be reprogrammed?

Answer
Geeez, if they can not figure out that the info they have
is flawed, I don't know what to say!

Tell them "no, I have the gray key, obviously it's
IN your truck, and please reprogram the keys
you have so you can, ya know, DRIVE IT!"

silly dealerships!
