Car Alarms: factory car alarm problem, nissan maxima, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: Hi..... I have a 1990 Nissan Maxima, and the factory alarm has become very sensitive. Is there a way I can disconnect this myself? I would possibly even consider disabling the horn, if possible, just to stop it.

Can you help? Thank-you

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: It's a factory system. I had a Viper alarm on as well and had to disconnect the horn because the sensor became too sensitive some time ago, and now recently the factory system has been an issue.

It'll often go off in rainstorms, or even when cars with loud systems pass, causing me to have to go and start the car up to shut it off. Does this kind of thing typically happen after awhile with factory systems? It is an old car after all.

Thanks

ANSWER: Hard to say actually. It does'nt sound like
a short, but maybe an open circuit is setting it off.

When you say it's the factory alarm though,
is the car's horn and headlights what you see and
hear?

A.

QUESTION: It's the car's horn, yes. As much as it's gone off, I should know if the headlights go off as well, but I can't remember. I believe they do as well, if that helps any.

Answer
Ah! Ok, if malfunctioning now, odds
are, it will again.

Get out some basic install tools or get
a friend or a good technician
in there to do this.

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt.grn/blk/ sil dots(-negative)
located at the anti-theft module.
The Anti-theft module located to left of
steering column. It says Theft Warning on module.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the OEM alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good evening.
