Car Alarms: 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Alarm acting up, jeep grand cherokee, grand cherokee

Question
Hi. I'm having problems with the alarm for this vehicle.  I don't have the
remote key entry anymore.  The battery went dead - completely.  Jumped the
car and began having alarm problems.  Having added a new battery, a new
alternator, I still have alarm problems.  Cannot turn off reliably with turning
the key in the door or in the rear door.

Now whenever I turn the key in the lock, the horn sounds once.  When I hit
the electronic lock switch, the horn sounds once. When I start the car, the
lights flash.

The "turning the key inside the lock cylinders" does not seem to de activate or
reset completely.

What am I missing?

Or, is there any way to bypass / permanently disable the alarm without
causing further systemic problems in the electrical system?

Many thanks for you help on this one.  We're scratching our heads here.

Answer
Not an uncommon event in this vehicle.
This question comes up ALLOT!

The factory system has gone
bad from the sounds of it.

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
purple/yellow |-| in the driver kick panel area,
at the black plug.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
