Car Alarms: Factory horn and headlights alarm goes off at night- Ford Taurus, car alarm system, ford taurus

Question
Hi- I drive a 2001 Taurus that I bought used. For the past three years, my factory car alarm goes off at night, and sometimes in the early morning. I have come to suspect that the temperature has something to do with setting the alarm off, because it only happens in the Fall and Winter after dark.  On the coldest nights, the alarm has gone off as much as three or four times. My mechanic can’t find anything wrong and I don’t know what to do. The neighbors hate me.

My husband wants to install some weird switch to disconnect the car battery at night and I really don’t like that option. If I bought a new car alarm system or an aftermarket keyless remote to replace my factory remote- would that solve the problem?  I’m desperate, the car is driving me insane. Please help, thanks!

Answer
Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
pink/white |-| in 26 pin plug at GEM.
The GEM module is to the left of the
steering column.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
